Chapter 1. Developing Your Creation Myth – The Core of Your Personal Brand

Your fame starts with “your story” the story that answers the basic questions of why you do what you do and where it all began. You will want to explain how you found your calling and how you developed your talents. Your fans will be interested in your “aha” moment and what challenges you conquered along the way. Once you are happy with your story, tweak it and enhance it so it resonates with your audience in an emotional and empowering way to grow your fame!

All great brand stories have some common characteristics: a time, a place, a protagonist, some setbacks and an aha moment that was the catalyst to all their successes. Like a great book or movie, your fame will start with a story, your story. Some call it a back story or, in many cases, a creation myth because over time fact is blended with fiction until no one really knows the truth but the story lives on. The more engaging that story, the more successful you will be.

In Chapter One you will learn:

  • How to tell your story in a captivating way that draws people and opportunities to you like a magnet
  • The 10 key elements of a captivating creation story that demand attention
  • Defining your “Aha” moment
  • The power of passion the ultimate marketing tool
  • Admitting the setbacks and ultimately claiming victory!

Chapter 2. Claiming Your Position of Authority in Your Market!

To become famous, you sometimes need an element of luck, but the famous take bold steps to make sure that the odds are in their favor. You do this by being in the right places at the right times and following a carefully planned strategy of meeting the right people.

Next you must state your claim. Exactly what do you want to be famous for and how famous do you want to be? What position do you want to hold in the minds of your fans, customers or clients? The clearer you are about what you want to be known as, the easier it will be to line up the tools behind that goal to make it happen. You may want to be the best lawyer, real estate agent, salesperson, accountant, investment advisor, doctor, instructor, band, expert, or specific business. How far must your fame reach to be effective in helping you reach your goals in your company, town, city, county, state, country or world? Whatever your answer, it all starts with claiming your position.

This position might be your dream, goal, vision, creed, unique selling proposition, or a combination all of these things. It has to be something you can believe in and convey your passion about to others.

In Chapter Two you will learn:

  • How the famous improved their luck, and you can too

Chapter 3. Confidence and Competence – How to Rapidly Boost Your Supply of Both

Self-confidence is the foundation of all personal success. With self-confidence, people will try new things, go to new places, and set larger and more ambitious goals. With self-confidence, you have a greater ability to be creative, to accept new challenges, and to bring opportunity into your life. When others observe your confidence in your abilities, opportunities will flow towards you as they recognize that you have the confidence to handle important or difficult situations. Self-confidence makes you become a more effective leader-of the band or the bandits-and is a prerequisite for peak performance in any field. Thus, you must be able to discern it, develop it, and inspire it in others.

Many famous people change their name or adopt a more powerful nickname (like trading in Eldrick for Tiger)! Many famous movies and TV shows can be defined by a single catch phrase of just a few lines, and the famous know their brand can hang on a handful of well-chosen lines, quotes or phrases. Choose them wisely because others will adopt them, adding to your fame.

In Chapter Four you will learn:

In fact, you don’t have to be attractive at all. No one is going to confuse Lady Gaga with a supermodel, but many a supermodel would quickly trade places. What you need is “the look,” your unique combination of fashion, style, colors, symbols and accessories. Styles and colors that are uniquely associated with you — your power, talents, charisma, brand and fame! Chapter 8. Developing Legendary Charisma – The Power of Instant Attraction

One trait almost all famous people have is charisma — that magical “something” that makes you stand out from the crowd and increases your chances for every opportunity. It’s a trait that will attract people to your cause, and increase the number of friends, clients and fans available to help and support your efforts. Many people have described charisma and said how to develop it. But at the heart of it, charisma is something you project to others, so you must feel it. Charismatic people motivate and build commitment in any organization where they are involved, be it a band, office or army. Whether you are a teacher, preacher, coach, entrepreneur or corporate CEO, charisma amplifies your fame. While some people seem to develop charisma effortlessly from the day they are born, this invaluable trait can also be acquired. This is because the key ingredient of charisma is perception rather than reality. As somebody once said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But how does one acquire charisma, that elusive essence of personal magic that is so evident in such famous personalities as Richard Branson, Tom Cruise, and Oprah Winfrey, to name but a few?

In Chapter Eight you will learn:

  • The DNA of charisma
  • The power of a smile
  • The critical importance of body language
  • How to win friends and influence people with this simple gesture

Chapter 9. The Ying and the Yang – Finding the Perfect Enemy

People often disagree about politics, religion or social issues. Not only do they not agree, they often vilify the other side, and the debates can be heated — one side is going to hell, the other is not. In every great story, movie or book, there has to be an enemy as a main character. You need to create your story that attracts others. You offer people benefits. You also have to have an enemy (an antagonist). It could be time, poverty or the dark forces of evil. If there was no antagonist, no struggle for the truth, no beating the odds, then it wouldn’t be much of a story, would it?This is closely related to passion, which attracts others to your cause and fame. You need to be a passionate protagonist.

You must have a reason for your dislike of the factors you’re working to overcome or those who oppose your view. The clearer that reason is and the more often you repeat it, the more valuable it will be in helping you build your brand. Being a strong protagonist creates focus and provides contrast to your message, making it stronger. You need to be a clear protagonist to stir up passion, ignite your brand and accelerate it forward.

In Chapter Nine you will learn:

  • Why you need an enemy to really shine
  • Picking your passionate cause and rallying your troops
  • Framing your story so you come out on top
  • Famous feuds and how they drove others to greatness
  • Dealing effectively with the “haters”

Chapter 10. The Famous Don’t Leave Their Press to Chance – They Create Their Own Media

After leaving office, Winston Churchill was asked by a young reporter how he expected history to view him in light of his many political and military failures, especially the WWI Dardanelles campaign. Churchill cheerfully replied that he expected history to view him very favorably. The reporter asked him why. Churchill, already several volumes into writing a definitive history of World War II, cheerfully replied, “Because that’s the way I intend to write it.” Few people know that Churchill actually made his living by writing and, in addition to mountains of newspaper articles and speeches, published 93 books in his lifetime. Churchill was by no means the first famous person to shape how his legacy was seen. In fact, as a keen student of British history, he would no doubt have known that Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, employed two monks to write his biography, so as to preserve his legacy as long ago as 880. You don’t become Alfred “the great” by relying solely on the good will of medieval reporters. Indeed, there are constant opportunities for people at all levels to influence the way people think about you.

In Chapter 10 you will learn:

  • How to control the media’s image of you
  • Insider secrets to getting media attention fast
  • 20 practical ways to boost your fame in any industry
  • How to write articles everyone in your industry wants to read and share
  • Secrets to having a massive impact on LinkedIn

Chapter 11. Creating a Legendary Performance – Connecting with Your Audience and Moving them to Your Cause

The famous don’t sing, sell or teach or preach they perform and with every performance their audience grows. Whether you are a rock star or a Realtor, whether your performance is on stage or behind a desk, the success of your efforts comes down to communication. This includes the words, sounds, body language and actions that create an emotional response in your audience, whether that audience is 20,000 fans in a stadium or one person to whom you are trying to sell a house. Your success in business life will be based largely on your ability to communicate with others-those above you and those below you, those on your team and those you wish to attract, those you serve and those who serve you. When you master performance skills the doors of opportunity will be flung open to you. Famous people are by and large great performers, and great performers are great communicators, although not all start out that way.

In Chapter 11 you will learn:

  • The DNA of great performances how to make yours legendary
  • How to set up your “stage” for success
  • How to maximize audience participation
  • How to instantly connect with anyone you speak to
  • How to make your performance memorable
  • How to get the audience to do what you want them to do

Chapter 12. Persistence and Practice

Almost all famous people have the character trait of persistence since almost no one gets famous overnight. They have the determination needed to see a project through to the end, no matter what. They know Murphy’s Law will rear its ugly head when least expected or invited. They know that there will be setbacks, curve balls, and sometimes total failure along the road to fame. Because they understand and accept these facts, they are better equipped mentally and physically to handle adversity. They recover quicker from setbacks. They acknowledge lost battles when they occur and get back on track with the task at hand-winning the war.

In Chapter 12 you will learn:

  • How to stay motivated in the face of adversity
  • How the famous broke through
  • What to do when everything goes to hell
  • Famous failures and how they came back stronger than ever

About The Author, Andrew Wood

Andrew Wood was born in Oxford, England, and grew up in the midland county of Shropshire. He immigrated to the United States in 1980 to pursue a career as a professional golfer. Unfortunately lack of talent held him back, and he accidentally found himself running a small karate school in Southern California. After struggling to survive for eighteen months as a small business owner, he decided to focus all his attention on marketing. This focus soon paid off, and he quickly increased his income to six figures while still in his twenties.

His initial interest in marketing turned into a passion, and he quickly turned the single school into a national franchise of over four hundred units. After selling out of the karate business in the late ’90s, he moved to Florida, where he founded Legendary Marketing, a business designed to combine his passion for golf and travel with his marketing expertise.

Author of over forty sales, marketing, and personal-development books, including Million Dollar Laptop, Legendary Advice, Making Your Business the One They Choose, Cunningly Clever Marketing, Selling Out Sell Everyone, Cunningly Clever Entrepreneur, The Golf Marketing Bible, and many more, Wood is considered the world’s leading expert in golf, resort, and real estate marketing.
